HKCBA long time member Mr. Jim Wong P.Eng was a presenter for the HKCBA Luncheon Series. March 2007 - Year of the Boar Gala

Over 350 people attended our annual Chinese New Year Gala at the Regency Palace Restaurant.  Attended by the Honorable Lt Governor Norman Kwong and Honorable Mrs. Mary Kwong, the event was a huge success. Lion dancing, champagne reception, silent auction and our annual presentation of scholarships hilighted the evening.

April 2007 - National Business Forum (Toronto)

Every year, HKCBA has two national business forums - one nationally and one in Hong Kong.  2007 Toronto HKCBA had the pleasure of hosting members from across Canada.

Over 500 attendees were at the 3rd Annual HKCBA National Hong Kong-Canada Business Forum in Toronto to find out why China, with its unprecedented economic growth, has become both a competitive manufacturing base and a lucrative market for business from around the world.  More and more Canadian companies are therefore looking to define their own "China Strategy" and they are turning to sell their products, techology and know-how to China.

It has been said: "With China redefining global trade, a China business plan is no longer an option for Canadian companies: it's a must."

Jointly organized by Invest Hong Kong and Fujian Doftec, HKCBA's Third Annual National "Canada-Hong Kong Business Forum" was organized by the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (HKCBA) to encourage Canadian business - particularly the small and medium enterprises - to take advantage of the exciting opportunities that are available...now...and increasingly in the future...in the rapidly growing China marketplace.

May 2007  - Wine and Cheese

On May 30, HKCBA Calgary was pleased to partner with the University of Calgary for a wine cheese function on campus regarding the new Dr. Fok Ying Tung International House.

International House will bring together talented international and domestic students; provide hotel-style accommodation for visiting students and University guests; and serve as a dynamic meeting place for business leaders, scholars, students and international visitors.

Over 50 members and friends came out to learn and support this initiative for Calgary.

June 2007 - Golf Tournament

On a sunny day in June, HKCBA members joined together to attend the annual HKCBA Calgary Golf Tournament at the Elbow Springs Golf Course. Always a good time, the evening ended with a steak dinner, good wine and presentations to the best and most "honest" golf teams from the day.   Please come join us for our next tournament on June 16, 2008.

September 2007 - Business Synergy for Calgary, Hong Kong & China Breakfast

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Handover, we were pleased to organize with the support of Calgary Economic Development, Hong Kong Economic Trade Office and Hong Kong Economic Development Council, a breakfast seminar at the Sheraton Eau Claire Suites.  Over 125 people attended the morning seminar which featured speakers from Lo Porter Hetu, ASAT Solutions as well as HKTDC and HKETO.

Moderated by Bruce Graham, President & CEO Calgary Economic Development and with opening remarks from Mayor Dave Bronconnier, the event was a huge success and was a great lead in for the Hong Kong Business Forum in Hong Kong the next month.

October 2007 - Hong Kong Forum (Hong Kong)

At the 8th Annual Hong Kong Forum October 8-9, 2007, Canada was awarded the highest attendance for the fourth year running with 101 Delegates (USA had 99).  Feedback we have received from the Calgary delegates was that they had a great time and found the Forum to be a very valuable networking and information tool.

The Hong Kong Forum is the annual flagship event of the Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide, a unique network of 31 Hong Kong Business Associations in 23 countries with near to 11,000 individual overseas traders, buyers and professionals as associates.

Every year members of the Federation converge on Hong Kong from across the globe.  From more than 20 countries they have come to:

  • Network with top executives and opinion formers from around the world
  • Find the perfect partner with Business Matching
  • Access the latest Market Intelligence via panel discussions on the China opportunity and make a trip to the Pearl River Delta or Pan Pearl River Delta

The Hong Kong Forum is one of HKCBA's biggest assets and a "signature event".
