Bow Valley College  - DUC DOAN

Before immigrating to Canada, I had graduated with a four-year degree in International Trading from Hanoi National University, which is one of the most famous universities in Vietnam. I worked in various positions for several companies in the private sector until I had my own business in scientific equipment trading and technical services support. My company participated in many bids called by government organizations and international factories. Through our business, we have had a wide connection with international firms and manufacturers as well as with global corporations. I have still practiced my managerial ability and business experience as a fast-food restaurant manager since I came to Canada in 2007. I also took ESL and EAP courses at Bow Valley College. These courses not only improved my language ability to meet academic requirements at a college level, but have also helped me to overcome cultural and communication difficulties. Finally, now I am in the Business Administration Diploma Program with a Financial Services specialty, which is my passion in the business field.

I am planning to finish my Business Diploma with the best grades possible and look for a job in the investment sector of banks or financial service institutions in western Canada. I also intend to improve my knowledge by upgrading to a finance degree and taking some professional courses in the financial sector to get the needed certificates and licenses. My desire is to become an investment banker and travel back to Southeast Asian countries to take part in investment and financial services in these countries, making a connection between developed, sophisticated Canadian knowledge and the potentially fast growing Asian market.

Mount Royal College - NATHAN COUSTON

I'm a student at Mount Royal College taking the Bachelorof Commerce University Degree. I am working toward my major in finance. I hope to be a financial advisor or something along the lines of finance, such as a mortgage broker. I have one more semester at Mount Royal beforeI hopefully transfer to the University of Calgary to finish my degree. After graduation, I am planning to stay in Calgary and work long enough to gain enough experience with my career. After I feel confident enough about my career, I hope to take my experience abroad, in which China is a major interest to me. These are my hopes and plans. If it does not work out Iwill definitely be traveling to China in the near future for I am veryinterested in going there to witness the great country's landscape, art, people, and their lifestyles. I took the Chinese course because I havebeen curious about almost everything in China for a very long time. After taking the Chinese Civilizationcourse, I feel a lot more satisfied knowing a lot about the country'shistory and how many things have developed and came about in the country. I appreciate China more than twice as much after taking this course and,to be honest, it is the best history course I have ever been in. I have been inspired by my Chinese Civilization professor, Yuang Wang, to travel to China to teach the English language to Chinese children. This would give me a great opportunity to explore China, its language, and get paid. I hope I will find this opportunity in the near future as I feel I would really enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience

Mount Royal College - NOLAN NGUYEN

The reason I took Chinese Civilization stemmed from many reasons. I am a Canadian born Chinese and had scarce knowledge about my heritage;  this course helped me learn about background. Rather than taking just  any history course about any other country, I wanted to learn something that I could relate to my life. If the college had Vietnamese Civilization, that would probably be my second choice! The second reason why I'm taking this course is because this course is going to be used as a senior elective for my degree. I'm a Bachelor of  Commerce (Transfer Student) and will be completing half of my degree at Mount Royal College and the 2nd half at the University of Calgary.  I am currently in my 2nd year of studies.

Alongside with Nolan's studies, he also teaches piano, coaches Taekwondo, tutors elementary students and works part-time for the Mount Royal College helping students and faculty with technical issues relating to computers. Despite Nolan's extra-curricular activities, he still manages to maintain a 3.8 GPA -- allowing him to be on both Mount Royal College's Dean's and President's list.

Nolan aspires to become a Chartered Financial Analyst, and wishes to work abroad internationally.
